With Florida Republican Sen. Mel Martinez retiring in 2010, there is a deep bench of potential candidates in the Sunshine Statethe most prominent being former Gov. Jeb Bush , who is reportedly mulling a run for the Senate seat.
While brother President George W. Bush ’s approval ratings are at historic lows, the former Florida governor enjoyed strong approval ratings during his two terms, not to mention built-in name identification and a fund-raising base. If he decides to run, he would likely clear the GOP field of potential candidates.
Since leaving office in 2007, Bush has mostly served on a number of boards. On Monday, he joined the board of directors of the Jacksonville-based timber and real estate company Rayonier, the Palm Beach Post reported .
