After Historic Convention, Political Spotlight Turns to GOP

 
The political spotlight turns this weekend to John McCain and the Republicans, after a week of scathing criticism from Democrats and a declaration Thursday night from Barack Obama that McCain just “doesn’t get it.” Republicans are headed to St. Paul for their national convention, where they will make the case why McCain, not Obama, has the experience and judgment to be president. McCain is expected to announce his running mate choice Friday in Dayton, Ohio, quickly snatching attention from the Democratic National Convention. The McCain campaign already began to fire back Thursday night, accusing of Obama running on a featherweight record. “When the temple comes down, the fireworks end and the words are over, the facts remain: Senator Obama still has no record of bipartisanship, still opposes offshore drilling, still voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 per year, and still voted against funds for American troops in harm’s way.
