Another Victory for Roland Burris

 
Susan Davis reports on Congress. Illinois Senate nominee Roland Burris won another victory today in his battle with Senate Democratic leaders to recognize his appointment by scandal-plagued Gov. Rod Blagojevich to fill President-elect Barack Obama ’s Senate seat. In a unanimous ruling, the Illinois Supreme Court said Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s signature is not needed to validate Burris’s nomination. Senate Democrats have said without the secretary’s signature, they do not have to recognize the appointment. “No further action is required by the Secretary of State or any other official to make the Governor’s appointment of Roland Burris to the United States Senate valid under Illinois law,” wrote Justice Lloyd Karmeier in a decision, putting the ball back in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’ s court.
