Former President George W. Bush can boast of his own 100 day milestone: he has raised $100 million since leaving office to build his presidential library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Time magazine reports .
Donors to presidential libraries are not bound by campaign finance laws, and can donate unlimited sumsand do so anonymously. Citing unnamed Bush sources, the magazine reports that, so far, none of the money has come from overseas.
The Bush team has created a campaign-like fund-raising structure with 100 co-chairs in every state. Time notes that the committee is filled with some of the former presidents most loyal and well-known backers including former Bush Commerce Secretary Don Evans , who is chairing the effort.
Bush needs a projected $300 million to complete the George W. Bush Presidential Center, including a museum and research institute covering 25-acres at SMU. Organizers hope to open its doors in 2013.
