Bush Says He Talks to Obama About Big Decisions, Including Citigroup

 
John D. McKinnon reports on the White House. President George W. Bush sought to reassure the public that he’s doing the right thing for financial markets, and emphasized that he’s personally running big decisions past President-elect Barack Obama . In a mid-morning statement on financial markets after a late night announcement that the administration stepped in to rescue Citigroup Inc., Bush said he “talked to President-elect Obama about the decision we made …It’s important for the American people to know there’s close cooperation.” Bush, speaking on the steps of the Treasury Building, said he talked to his Treasury secretary, Henry Paulson , about the Citigroup rescue on Sunday night as Bush flew back from a Pacific Rim economic summit in Peru. He also talked to Obama about the decision, and Paulson is “working closely” with the president-elect’s transition team, Bush said.
