Clinton Says Iran Process on ‘Dual Tracks’

Associated Press Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testifies Wednesday before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Concerning efforts to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran, she said the U.S. isn’t just holding out a hand but also is preparing sanctions, should such a step become necessary. “We will be operating on dual tracks,” Clinton said. “Yes, we are more than willing to reach out to the Iranians to discuss a range of issues, assuming they’re willing to reach back… But we are also laying the groundwork for the kind of very tough — I think you said crippling — sanctions that might be necessary in the event that our offers are either rejected or the process is inconclusive or unsuccessful.” Here are highlights of of her testimony: On piracy: “We know that you cannot just ...
