The Democratic convention formally kicks off today at 3 p.m. MDT/5 p.m. EDT at the Pepsi Center in Denver with One Nation the banner theme for the day.
Barack Obama s wife, Michelle , will give todays keynote convention speech with convention chairwoman and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Jimmy Carter also slated for prime-time. And while Republicans have Sen. Joe Lieberman speaking at their convention next week, former Iowa Republican Rep. Jim Leach will speak today at the Democratic convention.
An eight-minute video tribute to Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy , produced by documentary filmmakers Ken Burns and Mark Herzog , will premiere tonight following an introduction by Kennedys niece and Obama running-mate vetter, Caroline Kennedy .
