Delegates Shrug at News of Palin’s Daughter

 
June Kronholz reports from St. Paul, Minn., on the Republican convention. Gov. Sarah Palin ’s announcement that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant didn’t seem to lessen the enthusiasm that many Republican convention delegates have for the presumed vice presidential nominee. “Every family’s had that,” said Bob Bennett , chairman of the Ohio delegation as the convention was gaveled open—although he then said his own family hadn’t faced “that.” “I do not believe in that, but it happens,” added Lynn Rousenberg , a delegate from Jerusalem, Ohio, using the same euphemism. But Rousenberg, grandmother of two teenaged girls, was more worried that Democrats would use the news about the Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate to attack the Republican ticket. “Everyone in their life has something negative,” she added. The Palins are “like every other family in America—they have a wide range of challenges,” added Jeff Kottkamp , lieutenant governor of Florida. “Middle America will say ... (link)
