Republican Florida Reps. Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Mario Diaz-Balart released a joint statement condemning President Barack Obama s decision to ease long-standing restrictions on family travel and remittances to the island.
The Diaz Balarts are members of a well-known Cuban family and prominent in Florida politics. Their father, Rafael Diaz-Balart , was Fidel Castros brother-in-law. He fled Cuba when Castro came in to power and formed the first anti-Castro organization in the late 1950s.
President Obama has committed a serious mistake by unilaterally increasing Cuban-American travel and remittance dollars for the Cuban dictatorship, the brothers said, arguing that Obama is undermining a tenet of his Jan. 20 inauguration speech in which he stated: to those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your ...
