Disabled Protesters Show Up at McCain Event
Elizabeth Holmes reports from Denver on the presidential race.
On the same day that Sarah Palin gave a speech pledging the GOP tickets support for people with disabilities, a handful of protesters, two in wheelchairs and another on crutches, were escorted out of a John McCain rally here.
The people came from a Denver-based group called Adapt that is pushing for passage of the Community Choice Act , legislation aimed at expanding housing options for people with disabilities. It would redirect Medicaid funds for attendant services, including bathing, dressing, meal preparation, money management and certain health-related tasks.
From the podium in the middle of his remarks, McCain used the line he has ready for any kind of interruption including antiwar protesters. You know, one of the messages the American people are trying to send people like that is we wantthey want us to stop yelling at each other, McCain said. So good luck to you, my friend.
Many campaign staffers ...
