Early Voting Update: 15 Million Ballots and Counting

June Kronholz covers the election. George Mason University Professor Michael McDonald , whose Web site is counting the vote , says 15.2 million people already have cast ballots, including 2.3 million in California, 2.5 million in Florida, 2 million in Texas and about 1.5 million each in North Carolina and Georgia. Registered Democrats have turned out by wider margins than registered Republicans in all 10 states that report early turnout by party affiliation. Ohio doesn’t register its voters by party, and many other big swing states—including Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin—don’t offer early voting, creating a very incomplete picture of the election map. Nevada breaks down its vote by county and reports that Democrats have filed 54% of the early votes in the Los Vegas area, compared to 30% for Republicans. The numbers are closest in Colorado, where Democrats filed 39% of the 1 million votes already cast and Republicans filed 38%. (link)
