Election Day Snapshot: Henrico County, Va.

 
Corey Dade reports on the governor’s race in Virginia. Republicans have tried to paint the Virginia governor’s race as a referendum on President Barack Obama , but some voters didn’t see it that way. One Obama voter from 2008 summed it up this way: Democrat Creigh Deeds ran a flawed campaign, unlike his GOP rival, Bob McDonnell . “McDonnell was a better candidate,” said Jerome Glover , an African-American who is a carpenter from the Richmond suburb of Henrico County. “Deeds didn’t carry himself too well, like he was hiding something or wasn’t sure what he wants to do. I didn’t trust him.” Henrico is a Republican-leaning county, but Obama won it last year. Throughout the campaign, Deeds attacked McDonnell as an arch conservative rather than spelling out his vision for Virginia. Some Virginia Democratic operatives said that gap explains why Deeds struggled to reach centrists and energize last year’s Obama voters. Another Obama ... (link)
