Evander Holyfield: ‘It Shows How Times Have Changed’

 
Melanie Trottman and Greg Hitt report on the inauguration. Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield , who wore an Obama t-shirt and wool cap as he bypassed a long line to reach one of the entrances to the National Mall at 9:15 a.m., was clearly moved by the anticipation of the ceremonies. Of Barack Obama ’s victory, he said, “It shows you how times have changed because we (blacks) finally have somebody.” He added that “It’s a spiritual thing to me: how God happened to take his time and put Obama in the right place at the right time.” Holyfield said he’s not among those who never thought they’d see a black man as president. “I’ve always been hopeful beacause the Lord God is hope.” A number of other celebrities were on Capitol Hill this morning for the swearing-in ceremony.
