A U.S. counterterrorism official said the Federal Bureau of Investigation is sending agents to Mumbai, India, to investigate the terrorist attacks that now include American victims.
A New York rabbi and his wife are among the dead, an ultra-orthodox Jewish group based in Brooklyn said today, and a spiritual-meditation group from Virginia said that two of its members, a father and 13-year-old daughter, were also among those killed.
The U.S. governments working assumption that the Pakistani militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed are the prime suspects behind the attacks has held up as Indian authorities have begun their investigation, the official said. The two Kashmiri militant groups have ties to al Qaeda.
