Feds Unlikely to Charge Suspects With Threatening Obama
Three men are facing gun charges but are unlikely to be accused of trying to plot Barack Obama’s assassination at the Democratic National Convention, a federal law enforcement official in Denver said Tuesday.
It’s possible — but unlikely — that additional charges could come later, the official said.
The men were arrested in Aurora, Colo., on Sunday after a routine traffic stop allegedly found Tharin Gartrell — who had been wanted on numerous warrants — in possession of methamphetamine and rifles.
Gartrell, 28, led police to a hotel in Glendale, where a second man, who police did not identify, tried to jump out a six-story window, according to KCNC-TV. He landed on an awning and took off, but broke his ankle. He was eventually taken into custody and a third man was also arrested.
Another man and a woman were also arrested.
Federal officials told FOX News on Monday night that verbal threats against Obama were made, but were not considered credible.
