Gore’s Take on Close Race: ‘Fear of Change’

 
Amy Chozick reports on the presidential race from Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver. Al Gore knows a thing or two about close elections. So why is the race between Barack Obama and John McCain so tight? “The forces of the status quo are desperately afraid of the change Barack Obama represents,” Gore told a crowd of 75,000 gathered at Mile High to hear Obama deliver his acceptance speech at 8 p.m. MDT. A series of speakers including New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine took the stage prior to Obama’s arrival. Performances by Sheryl Crow and Steve Wonder entertained the crowd in between the political speeches. Gore focused on climate change, the economy and national security in his speech linking all of them to an overall political mindset. He accused the Republicans of “wrecking our economy” and “abandoning the search for the terrorists who attacked us.” “Eight years ago, some said there was not much difference between the nominees of the two ...
