Tennessee Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen expects a tight race between presidential contenders Barack Obama and John McCain , but he acknowledged that in his home state, its not even close.
Its not a particularly competitive place, the governor said during a wide-ranging interview with The Wall Street Journal today. McCain is up by double-digits and its likely to stay that way on Election Day, he said, although he expressed confidence that Obama will be the ultimate winner on Nov. 4.
Obama can be a transformational character, and I think he can win, but its a very close race right now, he said. Bredesen said one of Obamas challenges is bridging the cultural divide, particularly among the white working class votersand Wal-Mart women –that favored primary rival Sen. Hillary Clinton .
Bredesen was one of the superdelegates that never endorsed during the primary fight, but ultimately backed Obama once the primaries ...
