Gov. Bredesen’s Advice for Obama: Head to Wal-Mart

 
Susan Davis reports on the presidential race. Tennessee Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen expects a tight race between presidential contenders Barack Obama and John McCain , but he acknowledged that in his home state, it’s not even close. “It’s not a particularly competitive place,” the governor said during a wide-ranging interview with The Wall Street Journal today. McCain is up by double-digits and it’s likely to stay that way on Election Day, he said, although he expressed confidence that Obama will be the ultimate winner on Nov. 4. “Obama can be a transformational character, and I think he can win, but it’s a very close race right now,” he said. Bredesen said one of Obama’s challenges is bridging the cultural divide, particularly among the white working class voters—and “Wal-Mart women” –that favored primary rival Sen. Hillary Clinton . Bredesen was one of the superdelegates that never endorsed during the primary fight, but ultimately backed Obama once the primaries ... (link)
