Inauguration Watch: You Probably Can’t See the Rehearsal Either

June Kronholz reports on the inauguration. The Congressional inaugural committee and the military will rehearse their roles in Barack Obama ’s Jan. 20 inauguration this Sunday morning, complete with herald trumpeters, military bands, a touchdown and takeoff by the Marine One helicopter and perhaps 3,000 service people parading down the Pennsylvania Avenue parade route. Don’t expect to see much of it, though. The Capitol Hill part of the rehearsal—the practice swearing-in of Obama on the West Front at 8 a.m. and the practice farewell to George W. Bush on the East Front at 9 a.m.—will be closed to spectators. Obama and Bush won’t attend either; stand-ins will play their parts. A dress rehearsal of the parade follows, with military units and Obama’s stand-in participating. Line up along Pennsylvania Avenue to catch sight of that. (link)
