Amy Chozick reports from Chicago on the Obama family.
First Lady-elect Michelle Obama received a phone call from Laura Bush Wednesday evening, according to an Obama aide.
The two women talked about the role of first lady and Mrs. Obama thanked her for offering guidance as she takes on the position.
The two women “discussed the honor and privilege of the role of first lady. Mrs. Bush offered her congratulations on the election. In addition to wishing her a happy birthday, Mrs. Obama thanked her for the grace and strength she’s demonstrated as first lady, and expressed appreciation for her guidance in the coming months as the Obama family begins their transition,” Obama spokeswomen Katie McCormick Lelyveld said.
Mrs. Bush also invited Mrs. Obama and her two daughters to visit the White House in the coming weeks. A date for the visit will be set soon, according to the Obama transition team.
