President-elect Barack Obama will hold a press conference today in Chicago at 11:00 a.m. EST where he is expected to name former Senate leader Tom Daschle as his nominee for secretary of health and human service. Daschle will also head up a new White House office on health reform.
Daschle was one of Obama’s earliest supporters in his presidential bid, and he was long viewed as a top candidate for Obama’s cabinet. Health care reform is a top issue for Daschle. Earlier this year he penned “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.”
Obama is also expected to take questions from reporters–chances are the press is more interested today in Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich than the incoming administration’s health care agenda.
