Live-Blogging Obamas News Conference
President-elect Barack Obama is holding a press conference scheduled today at 11:45 a.m. EST in Chicago where he is expected to announce former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack as his nominee for agriculture secretary and Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar as his nominee for interior secretary.
Vilsack was a short-lived contender for the 2008 Democratic nomination, and he endorsed former Obama rival New York Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary fight. As governor, he was a strong proponent of corn-based ethanol–Iowa is the nations biggest corn producer.
First elected in 2004, Salazars Senate tenure will be brief as he joins the Obama administration. He is the third sitting U.S. senator Obama has tapped to join his team following Joe Biden as vice president and Clinton as secretary of state. (For more on Salazar, read this story in todays Wall Street Journal.)
