President-elect Barack Obama is scheduled to hold a press conference at 10:45 a.m. EST in Chicago to announce Mary Schapiro as his nominee to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission.
He is also expected to announce Daniel Tarullo to fill one of three open seats on the Federal Reserves Board of Governors and former Treasury official Gary Gensler as the next chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The Wall Street Journal first reported on Schapiros selection Wednesday evening. For more, read todays story in The Wall Street Journal.
The two remaining unfilled cabinet posts are secretary of transportation and secretary of labor. Obama is expected to tap retiring Illinois Rep. Ray LaHood , a Republican, to lead the Transportation Department. The next labor secretary remains unknown.
