Live-Blogging Obama’s News Conference

President-elect Barack Obama will appear with Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine this afternoon to announce that Kaine will take over for Howard Dean as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Dean will not appear with the two men. Kaine, who was once rumored to be a prospective running mate for Obama, was elected governor in 2006. Virginia has increasingly become hospitable territory for Democrats–both Senate seats are now controlled by the party and Obama was the first Democratic presidential candidate to carry the state since Lyndon B.
