Live-Blogging Obama’s News Conference

 
President-elect Barack Obama will appear with Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine this afternoon to announce that Kaine will take over for Howard Dean as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Dean will not appear with the two men. Kaine, who was once rumored to be a prospective running mate for Obama, was elected governor in 2006. Virginia has increasingly become hospitable territory for Democrats–both Senate seats are now controlled by the party and Obama was the first Democratic presidential candidate to carry the state since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. The live-blog will begin shortly. 3:45 : Obama appears with Kaine. He lauds the achievements in 2008 but said the movement must continue to “redouble our efforts” to reach out to Americans in all 50 states. “We must create a movement for change,” he said, relying on grassroots activism. “We are in a strong position to this,” because of Dean, who Obama calls a “visionary” on things ...
