McCain’s Former Rivals Gang Up on Obama

 
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was the first of John McCain’s three former rivals to speak at the GOP convention Wednesday night and attack Barack Obama and Democrats. Romney, who was McCain’s fiercest opponent in the primary and a leading contender to be his running mate, labeled Washington liberal for awarding Guantanamo terrorists with constitution rights, stopping the development of more nuclear power plants, blocking efforts to lift the ban on off-shore drilling, and doubling government spending since the 1980. He warned that “liberals would replace opportunity with dependency on government largesse.” “They grow government and raise taxes to put more people on Medicaid, to take work requirements out of welfare, and to grow the ranks of those who pay no taxes at all,” he said. “Dependency is death to initiative, risk-taking and opportunity. “It is time to stop the spread of government dependency, to fight it like the poison it is. ...
