McCain’s Speedy Ad Response on Biden Pick

By 6 a.m. Saturday morning, just hours after news broke that Barack Obama picked Joe Biden as his Democratic ticket running mate, John McCain ’s campaign released an ad featuring the Delaware senator. But make no mistake: The 30-second spot, which the campaign will run in key states, was ready to go well before that. The McCain campaign’s rapid response team readied itself for the vice presidential pick all week and had spots on several candidates prepared. ( See video .) One McCain adviser said the daily meetings included a rundown of what the veteran staffers knew and how they knew it, along with “how we can best make the case that Barack Obama is still, no matter who he chooses, not the man for the job.” The Biden advertisement is particularly juicy because of the comments Biden made while running against Obama in the primaries, as well as with the long history McCain and Biden have together in the U.S. Senate.
