McCain, still center stage in U.S., battles big spending

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - John McCain lost the 2008 U.S. presidential election to Barack Obama but his passion to rein in government spending has assured him a leading role in Republican efforts to shape Obama's economic revival plans.
