For a guy who just lost a presidential race, Sen. John McCain was in an awfully good mood Thursday.
I didnt think Id be back on the campaign trail quite this early, he joked Thursday as a crowd of some 1,500 roared with laughter.
McCain might have lost last week but his first public appearance since his defeat was a thrill to the capacity crowd that packed into a ballroom at the Cobb Energy Center, a performing-arts venue 10 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
McCain was here to campaign for Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss , a Republican who finds himself in a Dec. 2 runoff against Democrat Jim Martin. At stake, possibly, is whether the Democrats can get a 60-member, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.
