Meghan McCain Writes Children’s Book

Laura Meckler reports on the presidential race from Eagle, Colo. It’s de rigueur these days for presidential candidates to publish books about themselves. But John McCain is getting some backup from his daughter Meghan, who has written a glossy, illustrated children’s book, “My Dad, John McCain.” It comes out Sept. 2, two days before her father will accept the Republican Party’s nomination for president. John McCain ’s own books, co-authored with longtime aide Mark Salter , include a healthy dose of introspection with anecdotes both flattering and confessional. Not so for Meghan’s book, which includes passages like, “My father loves this country more than anyone I know.” The book covers some of the most challenging moments in her dad’s life, such as a devastating fire on the Forrestal, an aircraft carrier on which he served during the Vietnam War.
