Nevada Republicans Wrap Up Tough Year

 
Brad Haynes reports on Nevada politics. A rough year for Nevada Republicans just got worse. They lost their voter registration advantage. They lost the presidential race in the state by 12 percentage points. They lost a seat in Congress. And now they’re losing their Las Vegas office. The state GOP packed up their southern office a few miles from The Strip, ostensibly for a “move.” But the boxes are headed into storage as Republicans shift their headquarters to their northern office in Carson City. The party’s executive director will move in with his parents in Reno so he can work in Carson City. While Carson City is the state capital, more than 70% of Nevada’s population lives in the state’s southernmost county, Clark County, which includes the fast-growing greater Las Vegas area. It’s a bad time for the state party to be pulling back, with Democratic Sen. Harry Reid , the Senate majority leader, up for re-election in 2010 while facing dismal approval ratings . But ... (link)
