Obama Nomination Speech: McCain ‘Doesn’t Get It’

 
Susan Davis reports from Denver on the Democratic National Convention. Barack Obama will seek to draw stark distinctions between himself and John McCain in his nomination speech tonight, casting the Arizona senator as a candidate who marches in lock step with President Bush and the Republican Party, and one who is out of touch with middle-class Americans. “Now, I don’t believe that Senator McCain doesn’t care what’s going on in the lives of Americans. I just think he doesn’t know,” Obama will say, according to prepared text. About 75,000 attendees are gathered at Invesco Field at Mile High to hear Obama speak tonight. Criticizing McCain for supporting policies Obama said harms the middle class, the Democratic candidate charges: “It’s not because John McCain doesn’t care. It’s because John McCain doesn’t get it.” He accuses McCain of subscribing to an “old, discredited Republican philosophy” that benefits only the wealthiest of Americans. He also will take on ...
