Barack Obama urged voters Saturday not to be “fooled” by John McCain’s attempts to cast the GOP ticket as the force for change in this election.
The Democratic presidential nominee was reacting to declarations by McCain and running mate Sarah Palin in the closing days of the Republican convention that they would deliver the kind of reform in Washington, D.C., that Obama only talks about.
“Change is coming,” McCain said in his nomination acceptance speech and repeated Saturday in Colorado.
But Obama, who also dished out his first direct criticism of McCain’s vice presidential pick, said the McCain campaign must think Americans are “stupid” to make such claims.
“Since the beginning of this campaign, we’ve been talking about change. … We must be on to something, because I notice now everyone’s talking about change now,” Obama said.
