Barack Obama regained his lead against John McCain in polling conducted by the Pew Research Center following the first presidential debate last Friday.

The poll shows Obama leading 49%-42% among registered voters nationwide.
Pew found three reasons for the boost. Obama earned higher marks for his debate performance, helping improve his leadership image. There is now almost no difference in the minds of voters as to which candidate would use better judgment in a crisis, Pew states.
Obama benefited from the economic crisis. When voters were asked which candidate could best solve the economic crisis, 51% said Obama and 33% picked McCain.
