Obama Thanks the Clintons

 
Amy Chozick reports from Invesco Field in Denver on the Democratic National Convention. Barack Obama wasted no time thanking his former opponent, Hillary Clinton , as he accepted the Democratic nomination for president. “Let me express my thanks to the historic slate of candidates who accompanied me on this journey, and especially the one who traveled the farthest -– a champion for working Americans and an inspiration to my daughters and to yours — Hillary Rodham Clinton,” he said in the opening of his speech, before thanking his wife, Michelle . One of Obama’s biggest goals during the Democratic National Convention was to bring about party unity and win over the voters who had backed Clinton during the long primary fight and have not flocked to the Illinois senator. After Clinton spent the week pushing her supporters to throw their enthusiasm and their votes, it was Obama’s turn to praise the former first lady and her husband, former President Bill Clinton .
