Obama to Meet With House Republicans
Jonathan Weisman reports on politics.
President-elect Barack Obama accepted an invitation today from House Republicans for a meet-and-greet after Inauguration Day.
White House chief of staff-designate Rahm Emanuel reached out to House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence of Indiana last week, after Obama met privately with some Republican senators. That triggered a formal written invitation from the House GOP on Friday.
House Republicans stand ready to work with you to restore economic prosperity in America, and we do not want partisan differences to stall achievement in those areas where we share common goals, the House Republicans top six leaders wrote.
Somewhat to their surprise, Emanuel called back Monday with a quick acceptance on his bosss behalf.
The date of the meeting has not yet been set. Obama will also be joining House Democrats for their retreat this winter.
