Following the 8 p.m. poll closures, Sen. Barack Obama picked up a slew of states won by John Kerry in 2004. Obama is projected to win Connecticut (7 electoral votes), Washington, DC (3 electoral votes), Maine (4 electoral votes), Maryland (10 electoral votes), Massachusetts (12 electoral votes) and New Jersey (15 electoral votes). He picked up his home state of Illinois (21 electoral votes), and Delaware (3 electoral votes), the home state of running mate Sen. Joe Biden.
Sen. John McCain picked up two states won by President Bush in 2004: Oklahoma (7 electoral votes) and Tennessee (11 electoral votes).
MSNBC is predicting Obama will also win Pennsylvania and its 21 electoral votes. Races in New Hampshire, Indiana, Virginia and Florida remained too close to call.
