Obama Wins Pennsylvania and New Hampshire

Sen. Barack Obama picked up two key states that Sen. John McCain was hoping to switch from blue to red. The Democrat is projected to win Pennsylvania (21 electoral votes) and New Hampshire (4 electoral votes). In the final weeks of the campaign, McCain invested heavily in Pennsylvania in an uphill effort to have the Keystone State vote Republican–something it has not done since 1988. Obama’s Pennsylvania win clouds McCain’s prospects to reach 270 electoral votes. The New Hampshire loss is a particularly blow to McCain, as it was the Granite State that resuscitated his chances with his January Republican primary victory, and helped propel him to the nomination. He also won the state’s primary in 2000 against President Bush . The current electoral vote tally: Obama: 103 McCain: 34 (link)
