Olympian May-Treanor Popular With Republicans

 
Elizabeth Holmes reports from Phoenix on the presidential race. Misty May-Treanor is on quite a streak—with Republicans, that is. With her partner Kerri Walsh, May-Treanor won her second consecutive gold medal in women’s beach volleyball at the Beijing Olympics. The 31-year-old raised eyebrows during the games with a photo of her sticking her derrière out as President Bush waved his hand. (May-Treanor later explained the joke she had made to the president and insisted that the slap was on her lower back tattoo.) And on Sunday, May-Treanor kept John McCain company at an Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game. Holding her gold medal in one hand and wearing a Diamondbacks jersey knotted at her waist, May-Treanor and McCain appeared to share some laughs. McCain was shown on the jumbo-tron during the National Anthem and received a standing ovation during the playing of “God Bless America” at the seventh-inning stretch. He left shortly after, even though the Diamondback trailed by a run.  ... (link)
