From NBC's Domenico Montanaro As expected, Peter Orszag , director of the Congressional Budget Office, was named as President-elect Obama 's Office of Management and Budget Director, the Obama transition team announced today.
Rob Nabors , currently Clerk and staff director of the House Appropriations Committee, was named Orszag's deputy. Nabors served in the OMB during the Clinton administration as a senior adviser to the director.
“In these challenging times, when we are facing both rising deficits and a sinking economy, budget reform is not an option," Obama said in a statement. "It is an imperative. We cannot sustain a system that bleeds billions of taxpayer dollars on programs that have outlived their usefulness, or exist solely because of the power of a politician, lobbyist, or interest group.
