Palin Urges Gulf Coast’s Residents to Evacuate

Presumptive Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin tackled her first campaign trail challenge Sunday by responding to Hurricane Gustav and urging Gulf Coast residents to evacuate. In front of a crowd of thousands gathered here for a rally with John McCain , Palin reported on her trip to a hurricane command center in Jackson, Miss. Sunday morning. Palin said she admired the cooperation amongst the Republican governors of several coastal states. Palin, who was just the governor of Alaska a mere 100 hours prior, used her own experiences in her plea for residents to seek safety. “As governor of Alaska, I recently just signed a disaster declaration myself, when the people of the Fairbanks region, they faced the worst rainfall and flooding in decades,” she said. “And when any governor calls for an evacuation, these instructions need to be taken very seriously.” Palin also echoed the advanced thanks McCain ...
