Parties Duel with FEC Complaints

 
T.W. Farnam reports on the presidential race. The Democratic National Committee announced it will file a complaint with the Federal Election Commission charging John McCain ’s campaign has accepted donations from individuals giving more than the caps imposed by law. The complaint mirrors one filed a few weeks ago by the Republicans alleging similar problems with Barack Obama ’s campaign contributions . The Democratic complaint, which the party says it will file on Monday, lists over 6,000 donors it says have given excessively. It also points to one donor listed on the McCain campaign’s Web site that apparently gave just over $56,000 but never showed up in filings made with the commission. The Obama campaign has not made a similar list of donations public on its own Web site. The complaint also cites the McCain campaign’s acceptance of anonymous donations and asks for an investigation by the commission.
