Pelosi, Reid Say Obama’s Speech Will Meet High Expectations

 
Susan Davis reports on Congress. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada believe President Barack Obama will meet the high expectations they have for his first primetime address tonight before a joint session of Congress. “It’s a pretty exciting day for us,” Pelosi told reporters, adding “Tonight will be a historic day for America.” “Barack Obama is an amazing person,” said Reid. “The bar keeps getting higher and higher for him to give a great speech.” Congress’s top leaders told reporters that Obama will reassure a wary American public about the future of the U.S. economy. The president speech comes after the Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded following a 251 point slide on Monday. Today’s rebound was credited in part to testimony offered on Capitol Hill by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke , who offered strong comments against nationalizing banks. “I don’t see any reason to destroy the franchise value or ...
