The Clintons Hillary and Bill have hovered over the Democratic convention, but Politicos Roger Simon says that with Bills Wednesday night speech the Clintons have left the building. Finally. Both of them, Simon writes, gave Sen. Barack Obama what he needed and wanted. The theme of Bills speech could easily be reduced to one word: Readyas in, Barack Obama is indeed ready to be president. But Bill Clinton is also a charmer. It is his greatest political gift. And he was charming Wednesday night
Now, both Clintons have a chance to be a plus for Obama. But one of the greatest contributions they can make is to leave the spotlight. There can be only one nominee. Conventions are a time for unity and good feelings, however, and the crowd received Bill very, very warmly Wednesday night.
