Political Perceptions: With Sarah Palin, It’s Unknown Territory

 
The news that Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is pregnant continues to raise questions about how this will play out on the campaign trail. John McCain’s “advisers said that they were confident the story would fade soon. Still, it seemed certain, along with other dribbles of disclosures about Ms. Palin, to interfere with the careful effort by the McCain campaign to portray her as a socially conservative, corruption-fighting hockey mom with five children,” writes The New York Times’ Adam Nagourney . “This clearly stands as a challenge to the traditional image of a potential first family, and could well provide fodder for provocative conversations around kitchen tables or sly references in the late-night television comic-sphere.
