Reid to Meet With Lieberman on His Chairmanship

 
Christopher Cooper reports on politics. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will meet with Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman this afternoon to discuss the wayward Democrat’s future in light of his enthusiastic support of Republican Sen. John McCain ’s presidential candidacy. At issue will be Lieberman’s position as chairman of the Senate’s Homeland Security Committee, which many Democratic operatives don’t expect the him to retain. Reid is a personal friend of Lieberman, and has often noted that the Connecticut senator, who ran as an Independent in 2006 after losing his primary bid, is a reliable vote for the Democrats on issues not related to national security and the Pentagon. He continues to caucus with the Democrats. But Lieberman, a Democratic vice presidential candidate in 2000, angered many with his unswerving support for McCain’s candidacy.
