RNC’s Steele Launches a Sweeping Overhaul

Brad Haynes reports on politics. Michael Steele , the new chairman of the Republican National Committee, is moving swiftly to overhaul the battered national party, asking for the resignations of top staffers just a week after his election . Many in the political and communications departments may be rehired, but Steele and his advisers are reviewing staffing decisions from top to bottom after ousting Mike Duncan , President George W. Bush ’s selected chairman with promises of “something completely different.” Steele’s transition team includes Reince Priebus , chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party, and Jim Greer , chairman of the Florida Republican Party. The call for resignations mirrors the turnover in the Democrats’ national party, where the new chairman, Tim Kaine, and the rest of President Barack Obama ’s team are reconfiguring the committee’s staff.
