Susan Davis reports on Congress.
Barring objection by Republicans, Illinois Democrat Roland Burris will be sworn in as the junior senator from Illinois this week to fill the vacancy left by President-elect Barack Obama .
Senate Democrats tried and failed to block Burriss nomination because he was tapped by scandal-tainted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich , who is accused of using pay-to-play tactics to use Obamas Senate seat for personal gain.
Burris countered that the governors legal problems had no bearing on his ability to fill the Senate vacancy.
Senate lawyers determined today that Burris has the correct paperwork to be seat.
He is now the senator-designate from Illinois and, as such, will be accorded all the rights and privileges of a senator-elect,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois said in joint statement.
