Theres no two ways about it: Sarah Palin is an unconventional pick for a vice presidential candidate. The governor of Alaska is a former beauty pageant contestant and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
New evidence of her eclectic résumé popped up Sunday, two days after John McCain selected her to complete his ticket. Palin was a sports reporter in the late 1980s and, thanks to YouTube, voters can view her stint at KTUU-TV in Anchorage.
The Iditarod is of course the biggie but its not the only mushing going on, Palin, then Sarah Heath (her maiden name) begins as a photo of huskies with the words Lots of Dogs appears over her left shoulder. She calls the races and the times with a pronounced accent, much more noticeable than it is on the campaign trail. For those unfamiliar with an Alaskan accent, think of a mix between Minnesotan, North Dakotan and Canadian lilts.
