The longtime GOP senator from Alaska loses his seat to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, a Democrat. Stevens had sought to hold on to his seat after his felony corruption conviction. > Alaska's veteran U.S. senator, Ted Stevens, conceded today that he had lost the Senate seat he has held for the last 40 years and congratulated Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich, the Democrat who will represent the 49th state in January.
