Tom Brokaw Compares Dick Cheney to Dr. Strangelove

Sam Schechner reports on inauguration coverage. Vice President Dick Cheney ’s wheelchair-bound status, from an injury earned when moving boxes over the weekend, led some bloggers to invoke a noted 1964 Stanley Kubrick film in which Peter Sellers plays the title character, a mad scientist and former Nazi who with others winds up consigning the world to nuclear destruction. Tom Brokaw on NBC News mentioned the connection: “It’s unfortunate for Vice President Cheney to have had this accident, obviously, because there will be those who don’t like him who will be writing tomorrow that he had a Dr. Strangelove appearance as he appeared today in his wheelchair. It’s not something that he’ll be happy about, going out in a wheelchair, because he prides himself on his robustness.” (link)
