West Wing Lunch: Ordering From the White House Mess

 
John D. McKinnon reports on the details of Wednesday’s West Wing power lunch. Here’s the rundown as the four living presidents and the president-elect gathered for a White House lunch hosted by President George W. Bush : President Bush, his father, George H.W. Bush , President-elect Barack Obama , Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter ate together in the president’s private dining room, just off the Oval Office. The setting was more business-like than a luncheon in the president’s residence on the top floor of the White House. They ordered from the White House Navy Mess menu, which usually includes steaks, burgers and pasta, as well as a number of more health-conscious veggie dishes. No word from the White House on what the men ate on Wednesday. President Bush often has a low-fat hot dog for lunch, because he can eat it fast and get back to work.
